Remodeling a Kitchen with Granite Countertops

Remodeling a room can be very difficult, especially a kitchen which in many cases is the room where people spend the most of their day. The kitchen is a central area for the family and household. This high use area is usually the first area to be remodeled. When remodeling the kitchen area, one of the first elements that is changed is the countertops. This high use area is quite important to homeowners, because, depending on the type of countertop, it can show social status and or artistic taste by setting the tone of the rest of the kitchen décor. An increasingly more popular countertop surface is granite. All countertops have their pros and cons. Homeowners that are on a tight budget, might not be able to purchase granite from certain suppliers in Pittsburgh. With so many different surfaces to choose from, the decision really just comes down to personal preference.

When considering what the granite might cost, the price does not necessarily determine the quality of granite. The granite and stone economy can be considered unrestricted. This leads to varying price ranges that the individual businesses can control. Companies based out of industrial cities such as Pittsburgh might have lower prices due to them being able to process raw materials on site and not have to factor in some costs such as transportation. Though this might change the price, the current industry is outsourcing many of its products to Asia and India. This is due to many different factors and though it does benefit the business, the material itself that the consumer is receiving can also benefit.

In addition to transportation of the product, the granite needs to go through a couple of step in order to be prepared for the consumer. For the most part, many granite pieces are not pre-cut so the home owners are not only paying for the granite but for the individual cuts. Once the granite is cut, it now needs to be installed. When Pittsburgh remodeling companies receive the products, they then need to install it effectively. Granite is a very heavy material and in many case the original base that the previous counter sat on will not hold because of the heavier weight. Now, not only does the contractor need to install the granite but use reinforcing hardware to just begin to install the countertop. This cost when done properly by a Pittsburgh remodeling company may not cost as much as one might think.

Though transportation and the amount of cuts that the company or contractor may have to make could be expensive, there are options to try to reduce the cost of the stone. Pittsburgh stone companies might have suppliers over seas and a majority of the time, the cost for manufacturing and producing usable granite will decrease due to its outsourcing. The thickness of granite also effects the price. At a minimum, the thickness is around 2 cm. In this case, it will be reinforced by plywood. If requested this option of granite backed by plywood will be fabricated and assembled overseas which will generally decrease the cost that a company in Pittsburgh would have to take on. Each of these factors should be considered when purchasing a granite countertop.
